{"id":966,"date":"2026-03-06T09:53:20","date_gmt":"2026-03-06T09:53:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/portfolio.zenkoders.com\/ai-powered\/?p=966"},"modified":"2026-04-08T22:52:37","modified_gmt":"2026-04-08T22:52:37","slug":"the-vagina-revolution-is-on-now","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/portfolio.zenkoders.com\/ai-powered\/the-vagina-revolution-is-on-now\/","title":{"rendered":"The Vagina Revolution is on NOW!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In 2012, a bill was presented on the House floor seeking to regulate the use of the word vagina after Michigan Representative Lisa Brown was <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">banned from speaking<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> because she used the term in a debate over an anti-abortion bill.\u00a0 Representative Mike Callton said, \u201cBrown\u2019s comment was so offensive, I don\u2019t even want to say it in front of women&#8230;I would not say that in mixed company.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Really? A ban on a word that is, technically, a medical term, and which, in a larger sense, defines half of our country\u2019s population?\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When my book <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">she-ology: The Definitive Guide to Women\u2019s Health. Period.<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> was recently published after four years of work, I was thrilled and excited.\u00a0 Finally, I would be able to provide a 21<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">st<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> century option for the women who, like me, were raised on <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Our Bodies, Ourselves<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u00a0 This was to be the most comprehensive book on women\u2019s health that would open a dialogue among women about their vaginas and all related questions and concerns.\u00a0 With my years of experience, my successful practice in Los Angeles, and my reputation among media outlets, I was looking forward to having a chance to speak widely and change the discomfort women feel about discussing their own bodies.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There was only one problem: mainstream media didn\u2019t want me to use the word \u201cvagina\u201d when promoting my book.\u00a0 Sure, you can talk about women\u2019s health care but you can\u2019t say the word \u201cvagina\u201d when doing so.\u00a0 This has become a major roadblock for me\u2014it\u2019s shocking, disappointing, and contradicting!\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Yet\u2014having ventured out of my \u201cdoctor\u201d comfort zone, where talking about body parts is acceptable\u2014the discomfort, sought-after bans, and apparent embarrassment about the vagina makes complete sense.\u00a0 In my research, I found several shocking statistics:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">65% of women said they were uncomfortable saying the word \u201cvagina\u201d and often used code names such as \u201cDown there, Coochie, Va Jay Jay, Cha Cha, Hairy Potter\u201d.\u00a0 (For producers and network attorneys, I think \u201cdown there\u201d is a favorite.)\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">50% of women never talk about their vaginal health with anyone, not even their doctor! I realize, as an OBGYN, that my patients represent the other fifty percent of women who<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> do<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> comfortably talk about their vaginas, at least behind the closed door of my examining room. But the fact that one in two women is not having this conversation is keeping me up at night.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">50% of women wonder if their vaginas are normal looking, and many don\u2019t think their vaginas are \u201cpretty.\u201d<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In a survey of young women ages 16-25, half could not find the vagina on a medical diagram. Some don\u2019t even know the parts of the anatomy that make up the vagina, and hell, most women don\u2019t even know what their own vaginas look like. They don\u2019t want anything to do with them.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">All of this has led me to wonder why we\u2019re so squeamish about the term <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">vagina<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and what we can do to reclaim the word and take back our bodies for our health, pleasure, and sense of personal power. I\u2019m talking about an uprising here, ladies! I\u2019m talking about empowering ourselves to talk about our vaginas with each other, our partners, and with our healthcare providers.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Some call me the Vagina Activist or Vagina Crusader &#8211; others call me outspoken. My kids call me embarrassing, but whatever the label, I am here to empower you to talk about your bodies.
