Vaginal Farts

Yes, vaginal “farts” are normal!

Many of us have—for lack of a better word—noisy vaginas. Whether you call that female phenomenon a fart, flatulence, fanny fart, vart or queef, you are describing the particular sound that is made when air is released out of the vagina.

But how does air get into the vagina in the first place? Oftentimes it happens when fingers or a penis or sex toy go in and out of the vagina, bringing along additional air. Sex—specifically involving a penis—usually requires a lot of thrusting of the penis in and out of the vagina, which typically pushes extra air into that particular space. Not surprisingly, the only way for the air to escape is through the same door it came in, creating a sound that is not unlike the sound of gas being expelled from the rectum. There you have your vaginal fart.

Certain sex positions, such as doggy style and inverted missionary position, seem to increase the queefing effect. Therefore, it stands to reason that the best way to prevent queefing is to avoid putting anything in the vagina—which may or may not sound like a bit of a buzz kill. There are, however, other causes of queefing, which may include certain forms of exercise routines—again, avoiding those exercise routines may not be what you had in mind.

My advice is to try and laugh about those annoying queefs, because chances are that you are having fun creating those special vaginal sound effects.
